What made it work back in the day? I wonder at times why the disciples, found in the New Testement, were able to have the power and authority that they did. I know that it was through the Power of the Holy Spirit, but what was different about the men and women. Because I believe that We have the same Holy Spirit, right? Of Course so there was something different.

Over the next 4 weeks at Real Life  we are gonna be diving into the “Vintage” traits that these folks had. What I would like is some help and some testimony. Do any of you have people that come to mind when I say “Vintage” Faith, Prayer, or Worship.  Let me tell you about a “Vintage” Life that impacted me.

Virgie Simpson…sounds simple, but don’t be fooled. When My family moved to Mtn. Home AR. it was new experience for a kid who was used to living on Lake Michagan. I met Virgie at our First Church service and had no idea the effect she would have on Me. Over the years Virgie’s Faith kept shining through, either with her prayer life or her encouraging words or just her Smile and sense of humor she was just “right”. When I graduated from High school I left for Los Angeles, CA and was a little scared and worried and that was when Virgie gave me a note and told me not to open it till I got on the Plane. It wasn’t till I was flying over the Rocky Mountains that I remembered the Note and I opened to find what would become my favorite verse in all of Scripture…”Have not I commanded you? Be strong and of Good Courage. Be not afraid or confused for the Lord, Thy God, is with you, No matter where you go.” Joshua 1:9. I was encouraged and empowered by her words and strength. Someone told me one time “When I pray the Devil gets mad…When Virgie prays the foundations of Hell Shake”. Lord give a “Vintage” Faith like Virgie’s and the many that have gone on before.

So tell me yours…was it a parent, a friend, an anybody here’s your chance tell your story. Leave a comment below I wanna know about these “Vintage” lives that have impacted you.

God Bless, Vince

I have been a Christian for a long time. I have studied the bible for a long time. And I have seen God move so many times in my own life it would be impossible to count. And yet, I find myself yearning for the faith of a child.
I see that ‘vintage’ faith best in a child. One that until this past year not I nor anyone else could understand well enough to have anything close to a conversation with. He not only speaks well enough now that he can be understood well most of the time, but he speaks with authority about God. His prayers at dinner bring smiles and sometimes even tears. The sincerity in his talks with God often leave those who hear them awestruck. After I finish reading to him out of his bible at night his follow up questions are, at times, so thought provoking, I finish tucking him in and go grab my own to study out what it was he asked or commented on. God isn’t some pie in the sky being to him. He’s his friend. He’s his comforter. And he’s his healer. And there is nothing God can’t do. Period. He’s six years old!! And a conversation with him stirs up my own hunger for God, encourages me and brings peace – all at the same time. I’m honored to say that he’s my son. But, most importantly, I believe God is honored to call him his!

My grandma, Nancy Mahan, when she prayed you could hear the power in her voice…it was almost as if she was overtaken by the holy spirit while she was praying. When we woke up in the mornings after staying the night with her we would run into the living room and she was nelt at one of the living room chairs praying for each one of her family members by name (and believe me there was a lot…she had 7 kids and who knows how many grandkids at this time) plus everyone in her church and especially the lost (she would weep for the lost while she was praying), she did not rush her prayers she prayed until she could not think of anyone else to pray for, it was her favorite thing to do, sometimes her prayers would go on for over an hour…. I know she did this at least twice a day! Then on to the 2nd order of business which was reading the Bible…we loved to just sit and listen to her read, just something about it! She always put other people before herself and was always helping someone. When I say I want to be like Jesus I know my grandma’s life resembled what Jesus would like us to be…She left me a wonderful example! I pray I will leave a legacy like that…I better get it in gear if I’m going to leave this type of legacy cause I am falling extremely short!
